Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Sup, ladies and gents.

In 3 weeks I'll be flying out with my boy to the UK and hanging out there for 3 months. 2 weeks in London, then another 2 weeks travelling around England and then leaving boy to go up to Scotland for the other 2 months.

I am pretty damn excited. I still have so much to do before we leave, but omgggg UK. 8|

... Yeah, I needed to update this journal really badly. The last entry was from mid-August. *sheepish*

Whoa, you're doing exactly what I'm doing right now... only I'm in Scotland for 10 months. XD I've been in England for exactly a month now (IT'S BEAUTIFUL) and I go to Scotland this weekend (OMFG SO EXCITED)

Nah, in the UK nobody will care unless you do actually act like a douchebag. Primarily because the UK has adopted so many of the less palatable American attitudes in the last 50 years. And Scotland is filled with ignorant tards who will just think you're cool based solely on your accent.

They kept trying to make me say 'crikey' all the time, and were always so disappointed by how I just don't sound Australian, I sound rather middle-class London British. What some would consider 'accent-less'.
